The Greatest Commercial Kitchen Flooring

At Florida Kitchen Services, we provide three types of commercial kitchen flooring options: epoxy, acrylic, and polyurethane. It’s important we spend time to prep your floors prior to coating (or you might just end up needing to do recoat the floor a second time. As part of the prep process, we’ll first closely inspect your floor and thoroughly clean it. Once we are finished prepping – there will be no grease. Next, we fix any imperfections and defects that might be present in the substrate.

Restaurant Epoxy Flooring – Why Choose Us?

1. We Have Decades of Experience
With many years experience, we know that prior to starting the epoxy floor, our technicians inspect the current restaurant kitchen floor to identify anything unusual that need to be addressed and/or fixed. Once we understand the traffic volume and needs, we can develop a plan of action.

2. Explaining Our Findings
It is not uncommon for flooring needs to vary from restaurant to restaurant. It is important that we review the floor’s condition together and understand the best epoxy/polyurethane option for your needs.

3. Restaurant Floor Kitchen Preparation (Extremely Important)
Before we can apply the new coatings, we have to prepare the floor. It is highly important to ensure the floor is ready to accept the new coating. Our hot water, deep cleaning process will remove all of the old grease, bits, chemicals, and dirt that lines your current floor. Profiling the concrete exposes the pores so that the epoxy coating can penetrate into the surface much better in order to get the best bond.

4. Application of Epoxy Primer
Epoxy primers are thin and increase adhesion because they will penetrate into the concrete substrate for a better bond.
Primers provide for a better chemical bond of the thicker epoxy base coat which will result in a longer-lasting and highly durable restaurant floor coating. Because of their thin nature, epoxy primers also help to eliminate bubbles and pinholes that can form when the concrete outgasses Primers also provide coating uniformity – since the epoxy will not soaking into the concrete.

5. Start the First Epoxy Coat
We apply the epoxy in a series of two or more stages. The first stage is referred to as the seal coat. The seal coat is applied with rollers, squeegees, and brushed on in a thin layer. This first coat seals any porosity left on the surface of the primer. Once the seal coat has set for many hours, we begin the sanding process using 60-120 grit sandpaper.

6. The Epoxy Floor Sanding Process
In order for the epoxy to truly create a chemical bond with the surface, it is applied to, to prevent chips or flakes to come off over time and give it incredible longevity. Once the first coat of epoxy has cured, it is non-porous. By sanding the epoxy between layers, we are ensuring that each layer of epoxy bonds properly with previous layers. This bond makes the epoxy last much longer. 60-120 grit sandpaper is used by our company. Sanding epoxy messes up the finish and while it may initially looks dusty and cloudy, our subsequent coatings fix this, and the epoxy ends up looking like you never sanded it.

7. Additional Coats and Polymer With Sand
Once we have applied an additional coat, or flood coat, of epoxy – we also add a special type of polymer with sand that adds a non-slip surface to your restaurant kitchen floor’s surface. This is ideal for floors that can accumulate grease and water during normal business operations. Once this coat cures, our team goes over the surface area one final time. It’s also important to note that you may be able to reduce your liability insurance with the addition of a non-slip restaurant kitchen floor. Contact your insurance provider for more information.
